Urban Desi 'Renegades' Part 2
November 27 2007 11:07 PST
The ‘Renegades 3’ mixtape is so slammin that we just had to give you another dose of what it’s all about. As we reported earlier it’s a culmination of 25 hot up and coming South Asian hip hop artists, with slick production by Sureet Sandhu of Digital Desi Productions. So we thought we’d give you the passion and inspirations straight from the 25 artists themselves!

Without a doubt the guiding artist on the project is D.C. born rapper, Sir Aah, who is featured on 11 of the 43 tracks. One of Sir Aah’s standout tracks has to be, ‘How Can I Brag,’ where he raps about feeling guilty over kids seeing him as a role model. Sir Aah has been a part of the ‘Renegades’ mixtapes ever since they first started back in 2004 and he attributes their success to the “crazy chemistry he shares with Sureet in the studio.
Another artist who’s heavily involved is Fiji Island born, Toronto rapper Pacifik. He’s featured on 4 tracks, including ‘Transformerz,’ featuring Daku, which Pacifik says is his favorite track. “We came up with the concept cause the movie Transformers just hit the theaters when Sureet sent the beat and the hook came out tight and of course the mix down with the movie samples is hella tight,” says Pacifik.
East Coast rapper Kaly is another artist who is very involved in the project as he is featured on 7 tracks, which were amazingly all recorded in one day! A stand out track that Kaly is featured on is ‘Dreamer.’ “A lot of people don’t believe Indian guys can rap, and if we do they think we’re “acting black.” It’s perfectly fine for an Indian guy to sing r&b/hip-hop but if he even thinks about being a rapper he’s just written off; and this track is for all my people who struggle with a problem like that, of just being written off without ever having a chance,” said Kaly.

Rapper Ajaxxx is featured on the party track ‘Disco’ and said, “I “flipped it” and wrote three verses to it. It was cool, ‘cause it was a party joint but it had a dope Desi flava’ to it too. I definitely had mad fun with it.”
The mixtape is a perfect mix of party tracks as well as conscious hard hitting tracks. An example of that would be the track, ‘Try To Take My’ featuring UK rappers Swami Baracus and AG Dolla, and US rapper, Raja Wilco Raja Wilco. “It's a concept we all agreed on having vibed from the beat, proving that regardless of where you're from, injustice occurs in all walks of life,” said Swami.
UK duo Sunit and Raxstar are also featured on the mixtape on the track ‘Too Strong’ which interestingly features a Johnny Cash guitar sample! Raxstar is also featured alongside Sir Aah on ‘Something About These Women’ which has already been getting huge radio play across the UK.
The mixtape really does have something for everyone and you can see that by the array of different artists that are featured on it. Rappers like SpenDoe, Kerfew and rap group Blazin Annex being featured on one project would not happen otherwise.
The first single off the mixtape ‘Something’s Goin On’ features Raja Wilco’s conscious flows and production by Sureet as well as Cali producer Sameer Agrawal. The track is a perfect choice as the lead single as it captures exactly what young people in today’s society are feeling about the political situation the world is in.
“Working with Sureet was the smartest thing anybody would do, he’s an outstanding producer and his beats are blazing hot, I’m definitely looking forward to work on his next project’s.!!” says rapper Pakman. Just about every artist Sureet has worked with on this project, like rapper Cronus, UK rapper RKZ and rapper Aleezy all agree. “Sureet has the type of personality that works with the ebbs and flows of people of all natures. He is patient, hardworking, genuine, and appreciative – and in this industry, he is a key source from which quality music finds its birth and this genre finds longevity. I’m sure that any artist who gets the opportunity to work with Sureet will forever tip their hat to him,” said New York rapper One Signata Nach, who is featured on three tracks including ‘Got That Flow.’
The passion and hard work that each artist and producer has put into every one of the 43 tracks is undeniable. There is no doubt that this is just the beginning of the Renegades movement. After reading about these amazing artists if you’re still not convinced then remember one thing… it’s all FREE!!! And you can cop it now from the Free Download section right now!
